June 10, 1928 - June 09, 2011

Born in North Vancouver, a much loved husband and father passed away peacefully on June 9, 2011, with his family by his side after a long battle with cancer. During most of his struggle with cancer he was at home, cared for bravely and lovingly by his wife Jean and home support workers. We extend our gratitude for the care given to him by all those nurses and care aides who gave of themselves. His last few days were made comfortable by caring and professional staff at the Palliative Care Unit in Nanaimo Regional General Hospital. Thank you and bless you all.

The youngest son, George was predeceased by his parents, and his 3 brothers and his sister. He is survived by his wife Jean, daughters Donna (partner Mary Louise) and Janice, and son gregory (wife Yulan). He will also be greatly missed by his grandchildren Karen, Alexis, Meghan, Ren, Jamie and Angela, and great-grandchildren Brodie and Rhett, and numerous nieces and nephews. George was grateful for Wayne Searle, “my friend to the end”.

George and Jean moved to Qualicum Beach in 1988 from Ucluelet where he worked for many years as a heavy machine operator in the logging industry and was exceptional at it. George gave back to the community in many ways including as a volunteer fire fighter, union representative, little league coach and umpire, and he was an enthusiastic athlete in many sports. He was quick to help others, often when some would not, and took pride in the things he did. In Qualicum Beach he was a long time member of the Memorial Golf Club, Curling Club and PGOSA, and he played and umpired softball.

We miss you so much and will always remember you for your strong values and for always doing the right thing.

A service followed by a celebration of George’s life will be held on Saturday, June 18th, 2011, starting at 2:00 pm at St. Marks Anglican Church on Hoylake Road in Qualicum Beach. Refreshments immediately following the service in the Church Hall.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the BC Cancer Foundation would be appreciated.
