GEORGE EDWARD HALLSTROM

October 12, 1946 – March 24, 2016

George passed suddenly at his home in Parksville on Thursday, March 24, 2016. He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Hallstrom; children, Annette (Rene) Clemens of Calgary AB, Candi (Thomas) Capstick of Sydney Mines NS; stepson, Mark (Joanne) Slocum of Parksville BC; stepdaughter, Lori (Curtis) Wirth of Nanaimo BC; grandchildren, Shelby, Rachael, Bradley Clemens, Stephanie Morash, Pte. AJ Hallstrom, Madison and Owen Slocum; brothers, Dave (Gloria) Hallstrom of Campbell River BC, Charles (Lena) Hallstrom of Campbell River BC; sister, Florence (Max) Beck of Lantzville BC; as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family whom he cared for deeply. George was predeceased by his parents, William and Ethel Hallstrom.

George was a very friendly, outgoing person who made friends with everyone, everywhere he went. You could always find him sharing a joke, telling a story, or just catching up with the latest news. A man well known and loved by many.

He had a great love of the outdoors, doing everything from hunting to camping or even just fishing at the lake. Not very often would you ever find him inside doing nothing. George always loved to putter away in his shop, and he was always finding something to repair or build. He was definitely a man of many talents.

In his earlier years, George worked as a faller on the coast of BC, later he went onto installing septic fields and running the backhoe for his friend and boss Ralph Hillsden. No matter what the task he could always find a way to complete it.

George was always telling stories of his growing up hunting, of some adventure that he had gone on, or just some funny thing that had happened. He had unconditional love for his kids and especially all his grandchildren and will be deeply missed.

In keeping with George’s wishes, there will be no formal service. The family will have a private gathering at a later date. In lieu of flowers, feel free to honour George’s memory by making a donation in his name to your favourite charity.

You made me laugh each and everyday,

and most of all you shared your love with me.

Til we meet again my darling, happy fishing and hunting.

Your loving wife Barb
