Gerald Robert Hicks
Gerald ( Gerry) was born on December 17,1936 in Winnipeg, Manitoba and passed away peacefully on November 11, 2008 in Nanaimo Regional Hospital.
He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years Norma of Nanoose Bay,BC and four children Nancy (Bob), Gordon (Cindy) Wendy and Grant (Kim) and 8 grandchildren Dustin, Ashley, Stephen, Sydney, Curtis, Madison, Austin and Nicholas.
He will be remembered by his brother Bill
(Diane) and sisters Joan and Gail. Also surviving is his mother Mary Smith.
Born and educated in Winnipeg, he owned and operated Marv-eon Signs and Winnipeg Iron Works before retiring to British Columbia. He was proud of his accomplishments which included neon signs and building bridges in Winnipeg and across North America. He was a member of the Winnipeg Kiwanis Club and Pine Ridge Golf Club. He was a long standing member of the World Sign Associates and travelled extensively throughout North America to their events. In his retirement he loved to play golf, read and was an avid baseball fan. He enjoyed his children and grandchildren’s sports and attending their games. He was proud to be a spouseboy to the original Abreast In A Boat dragon boat team. He will always be remembered for his sense of humour and wit and always had a great story to tell. He had a positive attitude throughout his life and shared his kindness with family and friends.
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff of the Nanaimo Regional General Palliative Care Unit for their tender, patient loving care of Gerry. The family wishes to thank the Parksville health care nurses and Dr. Carey Sulz for their compassion.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1pm on Tuesday
November, 18th at Yates Funeral Home,
1000 Allsbrook Road, Parksville.
