GLENN WILLIAM PARMETER

April 29, 1920 – October 23, 2014

Glen passed away peacefully at Trillium Lodge, Parksville, BC, on October 23rd at age 94. He leaves to mourn his spouse of 73 years, Peggy (nee Allen) of Parksville; son, Allan (Jane) Parmeter of Duncan, BC; daughter, Shirley (Garnet) Millar of Qualicum Beach, BC; grandsons, Christopher Millar of London, England and Adam Millar of Victoria, BC. He was predeceased by his brother, Benjamin; son,

Raymond (Doreen & step-daughters, Shannon and Sheryl) of Kenora, Ontario.

Glen was born in Kenora, Ontario, to parents Wallace and Helen (Blair). He completed his schooling in Kenora and in 1939, with his brother Ben, joined the Princess Patricia Canadian Light Infantry. Glen served in England and Italy until returning to Canada in 1945. It was while stationed in Godstone, Surrey that Glen met and married Peggy.

They began their married life and raised their family at Rabbit Lake, just outside of Kenora. Glen owned and operated a service station there and after selling the garage continued to work as a mechanic until his retirement in 1986.

Glen was instrumental in organizing the Jaffray & Melick Volunteer Fire Department in 1962 and served as their chief for 13 years. He was very active as an organizer or volunteer in all community events. After his service in the military, Glen was a staunch supporter of the Canadian Legion and their projects.

Living in northwestern Ontario’s beautiful Lake of the Woods area meant he and Peggy spent their recreational time fishing and boating with friends and family. In 1986, they retired to Parksville, BC, where Glen continued his fishing hobby on the ocean and Peggy gardened. Many new friends were made during their retirement years.

Glen’s family wishes to thank the wonderful caregivers at Trillium Lodge and

Dr. Fletcher, who made Glen’s days there as comfortable as possible.
