Gordon D.F.C. Barnes

BARNES, Gordon D.F.C. Gordon Barnes passed away peacefully on September 10, 2004 at Eagle Park Health Care Facility in Qualicum Beach. Gordon was born at Burdett, Alberta in 1918 and attended school at nearby Mannyberries, Alberta. Prior to enlisting in the R.C.A.F., he worked as a grain buyer for the Albera Wheat Pool. He married Patricia Jean Sewall in 1942. After completing his pilot training, Gordon was sent to England where he flew operations as a member of the "Pathfinder" squadron. He completed over fifty bombing missions in the "Mosquito" aircraft and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. Upon returning to civilian life, Gordon and Patricia farmed near Brooks, Alberta. Moving out west to the Vancouver area in 1966, Gordon developed and operated a trailer park in Aldergrove, BC until retiring to Qualicum Beach in 1981. Here he built several homes and enjoyed many years of boating and salmon fishing. He also loved just driving around town and having morning coffee with friends. Gordon is survived by his wife Patricia; brothers Dale of Edmonton and Richard of Victoria; sons Bill of Penticton, Nick (Cathy) of Cloverdale and Pat (Patricia) of Qualicum Beach, and grandsons Adam and Kelly. There will be no service. The family would like to thank the staff of The Eagle Park Health Care Facility and the staff of Arranglen Lodge for their care and respect of Dad. Donations to the Alzheimer's Association of B.C. would be greatly appreciated
