In loving memory ~
Gordon Elliott died peacefully on February 25, 2022, in Nanaimo General Hospital at age 76. He is predeceased by his son Edward, his wife Lois Elliott (Morton, nee Miller), and his parents Norman & Joyce Elliott. He is survived by his daughter Pam Elliott (Scott Young), his grandchildren Kira & Miles, his sister Kathryn Elliott (Brian Carr), former wife Judy Elliott, and missed by his nieces and nephews, cousins, and many friends.
A long-time resident of Parksville, where he owned and ran several motels and was a realtor, Gordon was very active in the community. He was a volunteer Firefighter in the Parksville Volunteer Fire Department for over 25 years, rising to the rank of Captain and training many volunteers during his service. Despite earning the nickname "Captain Chaos" for having been on call for three of Parksville's largest fires, he was noted for his calm demeanor and his toughness when dealing with vehicle accidents requiring the Jaws of Life.
Gordon was an accomplished musician. At the age of 14, he traveled across Canada with the New Westminster band to win 1st prize at a national band competition at the CNE; he taught high school band in his 20's after graduating from UBC with his B.Ed. in 1969; and later in life, he played with the Oceanside Concert Band on first clarinet. He was also an active member in the Chamber of Commerce, Kinsmen, and Rotary Club of Parksville AM, participating in or organizing various fundraisers, such as Crabfest, Beachfest, RCMP Musical Ride, Taste of Oceanside, and Coats for Kids.
