Gordon M Smart

January 6, 1926 – June 3, 2014

Gordon passed away peacefully at Trillium Lodge in Parksville at the age of 88. He was predeceased by his wife, Eunice; daughter, Isabella; grandchildren, Stuart, Dylan, and Miles. He is survived by sons, Murray (Marsha), Lorne (Linda), Gary (Colleen); daughters, Carol (Darrell), Donna (Garnet); thirteen grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.

Gordon was born and raised on the family farm in southern Saskatchewan leaving to join the Canadian Army during World War II. He met Eunice in Saskatoon and it was love at first sight. They were soon married even though he was not demobilized from the Army.

Together they established their family, first in Nipigon, Ontario and later in Edmonton, Alberta. Gordon had a long and successful career in forestry with the provincial government before retiring to Vancouver Island. He was a writer, editor and publisher – a pastime that was a labour of love for many years. He always found time to enjoy his cats while puttering in his garden and around his home in Parksville.

His family extend their thanks to Dr Stephen Noble and the staff at Trillium Lodge for the support and care that they gave to him.

A Memorial Service will be held in Gordon’s honour in Edmonton where most of his family lives.
