Nov. 4th, 1920 ~ Oct. 15th , 2012

Peacefully leaving this world, Mom’s heavenly ‘Welcome Home’ celebration occurred on Monday October 15, 2012.

Born in Gateshead, England, Mom was the 2nd of 3 children. At 19 years of age she entered the Salvation Army Training College in England & began an exciting & fulfilling life of serving her Lord throughout England, Scotland & Canada. In 1954 mom & dad immigrated to Canada & served faithfully together as Salvation Army Officers throughout Ontario, Nova Scotia & British Columbia. They retired in 1986 making Qualicum Beach their home & remained active for a number of years helping establish The Salvation Army in the Qualicum Beach & Parksville communities.

Following dad’s death in 2005, mom’s personal ministry continued through her involvement in various Bible Study Groups up Island & at the Parksville Fellowship Baptist Church. At Stanford Lodge she soon became known as ‘Smiley’ and could often be found with the knitting group or at the afternoon sing-a-longs. She was grateful for the many dear friends, old & new and from near & far that faithfully expressed their love, friendship & support to her through visits, acts of kindness, phone calls & letters.

Family & friends will cherish the memories of mom’s joyful spirit & caring heart, her beautiful smile, her encouraging words, her love of music & singing, her back-cracking embraces, the awesome slippers she knitted & her living testimony of steadfast love for the Lord.

Predeceased by her husband Tom, son Eric (Sandra) & sister Christina Gilbert (Art). Lovingly remembered by her children, Colin (Patricia), Margaret (Steve) & Chris (Deborah); 8 grandchildren (Kristen, Kathryn, Kyle, Jenna, Graham, Jesse, Aaron, Carolyn), 3 great grandchildren (Jordyn, Madison and Hannah) & her brother Bert Storar (Doreen).

The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to family & friends that lovingly walked alongside us during mom’s final days & for the kind thoughts, cards, prayers & support received since mom’s passing. Heartfelt thanks to the Nanaimo General Hospital Staff & Palliative Care Team ... your gentle & thoughtful care for mom & family was remarkable.

Her earthly Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday October 21st, 2012 at Yates Funeral Chapel, 1000 Allsbrook Road, Parksville BC.
