Heather Ward (née Ritch), beloved wife of Layne Ward, passed away peacefully at the age of 52 on October 13, 2012, after a courageous battle with cancer. She is greatly missed by Bubba, Roxy and Layne; her sisters Janet, Robin (with Ford) and Susan (with Tom); and brothers Ian (with Cynthia), Brian, and Norman (with Petra), and the whole extended family of Wards, Ritches and Taylors.
Heather graduated with a B.A. from the University of Trent and a specialized degree in horticulture from Guelph University before moving west to British Columbia with her husband Layne in 1997. At Cannor Nurseries, her interests involved mason bees and native plants, for which she became known up and down the island. Even up to the end of her life, she excelled in ongoing studies at the University of Victoria.
A memorial will be held for her at the Knox Heritage Church in Craig’s Heritage Park and Museum, on the Island Highway at the south end of Parksville, on Friday, October 19 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Craig’s Heritage Park and Museum.Condolences may be left at www.yatesfuneral.ca
