It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our dear father, Hector C. MacLeod who passed on to glory on July 25, 2010 with his family at his side.

Born March 14, 1920 to Roderick and Margaret MacLeod of Lyndale PEI, Hector had 2 sisters and 4 brothers. During WW2 he served overseas with the Forestry Corp. During his furlough he met his beloved Lily, a British soldier, while strolling through St. James Park in London, England. A year later they married and soon the first of their 10 children was born.

When the war ended Hector moved his wife and daughter to Vancouver BC, where he worked construction, and later with the Dept. of Highways on the survey crew. Taking time off work, he packed up his family of 8 and traveled to Saskatchewan to attend Millar Memorial Bible College and upon completion was soon pastoring his own church in the Fraser Valley. During this time he continued with his job at the Dept. of Highways and built several homes for his family.

In 1964, Hector was transferred to Nanaimo as Resident Engineer for Dept. of Highways. He moved his wife and 9 children to the island where his last child was born. He spoke at many churches throughout the island and eventually started a church in Nanoose. Hector was a member of the Gideon Society for many years. Besides writing several books which are distributed all over the world, he also led several tours to Israel and held Bible studies in over 75 homes throughout the mid-island. At the age of 90, he led his last study 3 weeks prior to his death.

Hector is survived by his beloved wife Lily, of 67 years, his children, Joan (Reuben), Judy, Paul (Margaret), Wendy (Bob) Matt (Candy), Daniel, Rod (Noreen), Tim (Elaine) Jennifer (Daryl), Dean, 29 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren, his brother Harold of Montague, PEI as well as many nieces and nephews.

Hector will be sorely missed by all. He was a kind, loving, gentle and patient man who had a heart of gold, and a great love for God. He was a great husband, father, grandfather, friend and mentor to many. He leaves behind a great legacy.

A celebration of his life will be held at the First Baptist Church, 1650 Waddington Road, on Wednesday August 4th at, 2 p.m. followed by a tea in the church hall.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Gideon Society.
