(The Happy Stone Lady)

It is with great sadness that we announce the end of an eventful century with the passing of Helen (Jones) Stone on Saturday April 16th, 2011 at age 100. Helen passed away peacefully in her sleep at Mt. Saint Mary Hospital in Victoria. Helen was born on January 16th, 1911 in Swalwell, Alberta. The oldest of nine children, Helen is predeceased by all of her siblings, her husbands William Jones and Leroy Stone, her daughter Laurie Baron, and grandson John Gorski. She is survived by her son Don (Lois) Jones of Victoria, granddaughter Michelle (Ken) Gillingham and great granddaughters Laurie and Theresa of Edmonton, as well as many other close and loving family members and friends.

Helen moved to Bowser, BC in 1972 after the death of her first husband – a place that she so cherished, and lived with her family and many animals for over 35 years. She was very involved with the Wildwood and Island Gospel Churches in Bowser, and the Lighthouse Community until two years ago when she was hospitalized. Helen is well known for her gift of painted “Happy Stones”. At last count she had painted and given away over 25,000 stones that have found their way to homes around the world.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Michael Mawdsley and the dedicated and compassionate staff at Mt. Saint Mary Hospital in Victoria for their loving care of our Mom over this past year, as well as the wide circle of family and friends who have provided so much love and support to Mom and our family throughout the years.

A celebration of Helen’s life will be held on Saturday, May 28th, at the Wildwood Church, 113 McColl Rd in Bowser, BC at 1:30 pm,

with a reception to follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the charity of your choice.
