Hilda Marie Elizabeth Johnson (nee Hadland)

May 31, 2006

JOHNSON (nee Hadland), Hilda Marie Elizabeth

Passed away peacefully after a long battle with cancer, five days before her 87th birthday.

Treasured wife of Harold for almost 64 years, Hilda will be sorely missed by him, her 5 daughters, Marilyn (Don), Joy (Dennis, Tricia (Barry), Jan and Carol (Phil), her beloved grandchildren Kevin, Kyle, Adrian, Robert, David, Jeremy (Sarah), Jordi (Cythia), Shanna, Lorien (Guenter) and Tessa as well as her precious great-granddaughters Anya and Sophia.

Born to Julius and Lena Iladland on June 5, 1919 in Prince Rupert, BC, Hilda was the youngest of 13 children and the last surviving offspring. She was raised in Oona River on Porcher Island until employment opportunities led her to Masset, Prince Rupert (Smile’s Café) and Digby Island where she was hired as a nanny/housekeeper for Ed Wahl, a widower and his 6 sons. It was here that she met Harold, Ed’s nephew, who was working in Ed’s boat yard. They married in 1942, living in Prince Rupert for 25 years raising their 5 daughters. In 1967 they moved to Surrey, spending 21 years there until Harold built Hilda’s dream home that Hilda designed in Parksville where Harold still resides. Hilda’s interests revolved around her family. Always willing to lend an empathetic ear of helping hand, she will be remembered for her gentle, consistent love and caring as well as her special rolling pancakes.

A Funeral Service celebrating Hilda’s life will be held on Friday, June 16, 2006 at 2:00 pm at Yates Funeral Chapel, 1000 Allsbrook Road, Parksville, BC with a reception to follow. There will be an opportunity for viewing before the service from 1:00 – 2:00 pm.
