Hilda Pearce (Mason)
January 18th, 1935 - November 1st, 2016
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Hilda Pearce. Hilda left us peacefully in the loving arms of her family. Predeceased by husbands Ron Pearce (1989) and Brian Perry (2003) , Hilda was a loving mother of 3, Julie (Doc), Jim (Anne) and Edward (Maggie) proud grandmother to Mark, Kyra, Jenna, Cole, Alexandra and Jordan. Also a supportive sister leaving behind brothers, Art (Donna) and Bobby (Heather) and sister Lorraine (Bob). Born in Lloydminster, Saskatchewan, Hilda eventually made her way to the West Coast where she spent her life in both Victoria and Qualicum Beach.
Hilda had an infectious reputation for appreciating and creating beautiful spaces, especially her lush gardens, which brought her the most joy when shared with others. Her passion for fashion bloomed into a love of retail. Her successful business career spanned from her early days as a fashion buyer at Eatons, to opening the Touch of Class Ladies Clothing Boutique chain. Her entrepreneurial spirit led her to open several Qualicum Beach businesses including a dollar store, gift store, kitchen store and card store employing many local youth.
Hilda was dedicated to a lifetime of meaningful service in countless ways. She was a School District 69 trustee, a member of the Qualicum Chamber of Commerce, a member of Rotary, and was a Qualicum Beach town councillor for 4 years. We are especially proud of her vision to create Qualicum Beach Family Day and being named Qualium Citizen of the Year.
Her fellowship lead her to a position as Elder at St. Stephens Church. Her stewardship included social responsibility projects including work in Mexico, meals for the homeless and preserving the Brown property. Hilda was a world traveller. Her adventures took her to many exotic locations including China, Fiji, The Cook Islands, Africa and Europe. But Hilda was the happiest at home surrounded by her family, friends and especially her grandkids. She worked to make a home that was welcoming and beautifully decorated and ready for entertaining and celebrations.
Family was always first. Hilda’s strong values and social responsibility were at the forefront when she and Ron raised their family. “Do the right thing, even if it’s a difficult decision”.” Always lend a hand to those in need, it will come back to you in abundance” were phases often heard. The Pearce family home was always filled with 2 things, love and an abundance of laughter. Hilda had a wonderful sense of humour which was evident up until her last moments with her family.

Mom, we will miss you every day, but we know your pain is gone and you are bravely soaring with the angels.

A Celebration of Life will be November 20th
at 3pm at St. Stephens United.
In lieu of flowers, donations will be graciously accepted for The Manna Homeless Society in Errington.
