HUGH MUNRO CARTER

Aug. 20, 1918 – Oct. 23, 2014

Hugh passed away peacefully in Qualicum Beach, BC in his 97th year. His zest for life will be greatly missed. Predeceased by his first wife, Mona (1993). He is survived by children Jan (Christopher), Kim, Buzz, and Lee; grandchildren, Max, Georgia and Laura; wife, Nonie Lyon and daughters Christine and Jennifer; nephews and nieces Doria, John, Hugh, Angie and Todd.

Hugh was born in London, Ontario and raised in Vancouver. After serving in the RCAF, he studied chemical engineering at UBC, and completed post-graduate studies at Dartmouth. His career took him to England for 23 years, from where he traveled the world on business. Back in Canada (Toronto) in 1976, his career flourished. He became President of the Ontario Club in 1987.

Hugh and Nonie retired to Qualicum Beach in 1996. His passion for learning led to volunteering with The Old School House Arts Centre, Malaspina University Elder College, and C.O.P.S. One favourite pursuit was genealogy. He was a member of the Probus Club of Parksville and co-founded the Scrimshankers, a lively intellectual discussion group.
