Ingrid Nelly Hewitt
(nee Nielsen)
April 8, 1935 – July 3, 2014
Ingrid passed away quietly at Arrowsmith Lodge in Parksville, BC. Predeceased by her brother, Gordon, she is survived by husband of 59 years, Thomas: sister, Ann Scott of Calgary; daughter, Maureen of Calgary; son, Wesley of Port Alberni; grandson, Richard and granddaughter, Jessica both of Port Alberni; grandson Shane and granddaughter Sherri both of Chilliwack; and 6 great grandsons.
Ingrid was an accomplished horsewoman, who always rode a good one. A founding member of the CGRA (Canadian Girls Rodeo Association) and the CGBRA (Canadian Girls Barrel Racing Association) in Canada, she was instrumental in getting Barrel Racing acknowledged by the Pro Rodeo circuit, and for forging a competitive liaison with the Pro Rodeo Association in the USA. A barrel racer for years, and later a steer roper, Ingrid was always competitive and honest.
There will be no funeral service by request.
