Oct 1, 1921 - Apr 13, 2018
Iris, a resident of Qualicum Beach, BC, passed away on Friday, April 13, 2018, at the age of 96.

Iris was born to parents John and Mary Fearnside on October 1, 1921, in Bengough, Saskatchewan. She grew up as the fourth of seven children and attended high school in Regina.

In 1945, Iris married RCMP Constable M. Gordon Crawford in Regina. For a period of over two decades, her husband served in various posts throughout Sask., requiring the family to move frequently. In 1966, Gordon became Chief of Police for Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, where Iris and he resided for 20 years.

In Moose Jaw, Iris developed her love of gardening, began learning how to play duplicate bridge, and became involved in PEO, an international sisterhood concerned with women's education. In 1986, she and her husband moved to Qualicum Beach, BC, where she cultivated a colourful garden, continued to serve in PEO, and became accomplished at duplicate bridge. She was recognized as a bridge player with an ACBL's Life Master Certificate in 1996. Over the years Iris also became a Blue Jays and Vancouver Canuck fan, as well enjoyed watching curling, never missing a telecast game or match.

Iris is survived by her son, Brett Crawford; her sister, Iona MacLean; and her three grandchildren, Matthew, Geoffrey, and Lauren Skye. She was predeceased in death by her husband, Gordon Crawford; her parents, John and Mary; her sisters, Dorothy Cook, Isabelle McDonald, Ivy Mitchell, and Irene Gorman, and her brother, John Fearnside.

The cremation took place shortly after her passing and a private family gathering to scatter the ashes will be held in the near future.

The family is extremely appreciative of the outstanding care that Iris was provided by Qualicum Manor staff during her last two years of life. The family is also grateful for the many tokens of condolence it has received. If you would like to honour Iris's life, you may send a contribution to her favourite charity, local PEO Chapter BJ in care of Sue Carr, #101-330 Dogwood St., Parksville, BC  V9P 1P7.
