ISABEL MARY OSBORN

July 18, 1925 – October 4, 2013

Isabel passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on October 4, 2013. Isabel was predeceased by her husband of almost 50 years, David John (Oz) Osborn, in 1998.

She is survived and lovingly remembered by her three children: David (Carrie) Osborn, Corinne (Don) Stewart, Margot (Steve Heisler) Fletcher, and her 5 grandchildren, Mark (Amber) Stewart, Megan Stewart, Mallory Stewart, Brayden Osborn and Jack Fletcher, and her numerous nieces and nephews. We will all greatly miss her vitality, zest for life, humour and her enormous pride and support for her family.

Born in Victoria, BC, on July 18, 1925, Isabel had a rich beginning as a dairy farmer’s daughter delivering milk throughout Victoria. She became a hairdresser in the 40s which later helped pay for figure skating and hockey. Isabel and David were involved in many community activities throughout their marriage and were committed to “giving back”. Isabel was known for her fun loving approach to life, and boundless energy. She loved to show off her beautiful garden. She was a dedicated mother enjoying any occasion that brought her family and food together. She was a giving friend who loved to share an adventure, a story, or a new road to go down. At 84 years she courageously chose to move to Parksville BC, where she enjoyed living near the sea, making new friends and having great fun playing mah-jong and bridge to her heart’s content.

The family wishes to express immense gratitude to the wonderful VIHA Palliative Team and Home Support personnel who supported her (and us) allowing her stay in her home as long as possible, and to the patient Eagle Park Nurses and Staff members who supported and brought comfort to her (and to us) in her last months. A special thanks to the medical support of Dr. Bigelow, the Medical Imaging Unit Team at NGH, and to Oceanside Hospice for their wonderful continuing support.

We would also like to extend our heartfelt thanks to her many dear friends and neighbours who brought her comfort and support over these many months. It brought our mom great joy visiting with all her family and friends, near and far, who came with stories, comfort and much laughter during her illness.

A Local Memorial Tea will be held at 454 Morison Ave (please park on Morison Ave.) (Windsor Court) in Parksville, on Sunday, October 20, 2013 at 1pm.

A Celebration of Isabel’s Life and Tea Reception was held on

October 15, 2013 in Victoria BC at St. Aidan’s Church at 1:00pm.

In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made on her behalf to the Oceanside Hospice Society.
