J. ANDY RACHERT

We are saddened to announce the passing of our dear Father - J. Andy Rachert. He passed away peacefully in the early morning of February 14, 2009, age 87. He is now with his beloved wife Therese, who predeceased him in 2006.

Andy was born in Regina, SK, December 9, 1921. He was the oldest of three children, Erna Webster (dec.) and Eva Marie Atchison. Andy had 8 children, Gisele and Michelle (dec.), Michele (Ron) Murphy, Marcelle (Bill) MacCallum, Charlene (Darren) Delcourt, Valerie Hornett, Andre (Fran) Rachert and Joe Rachert. He has 11 grandchildren, Ron, Christine, Thomas, Luc, Erin, Danielle, Denae, Adrian, James, Eva and Gisele. He treasured his relationships with his cousins, his numerous nieces & nephews and all his friends.

Andy served 3 years, 3 months and 3 days in the Navy making numerous Atlantic crossings on 4 ships between 1942 - 45. Following the war Andy continued his academic education at U of A, but was lured away by a job in the seismic industry. 1950 was the year his beloved Therese walked into his hospital room in Nevis, AB to treat his broken nose and the rest is history as they say.

He completed his education earning a BSc.& Bed. and began a new career at age 40 as a teacher and administrator in Calgary, AB. He worked until his retirement and then packed his bags for beautiful BC. He called Westbank home for the past 15 years.

Andy was loved by his family for his enthusiasms; winner of the Senior Low Ball Title by golfing an 86 (his age), he made wooden crosses for his friends & the church, he believed in the cosmos survival method of gardening and the windfall apple find. He loved to travel and his 4:00 pm happy hour with friends. He belonged to the K of C and helped at the food bank.

His was a life well lived. He will be missed.
