In Loving Memory ~
It is with great sadness that we announce that Norm passed away at home in Parksville, B.C. on February 3, 2022.
Norm and Lorna had relocated from Brome Lake, Quebec in 2004 to be nearer to their west coast family.
Norm was born in Farnham, Que, and due to his father's job with CNR, he also lived in Bombay, N.Y., and Windsor Mills. Norm is the 3rd youngest in a family of 12. It was in Windsor Mills that Norm met and married Greta Ewing, his high school sweetheart.
In 1968 Norm joined Clairol Canada and the family relocated to Brome Lake, Quebec. Greta passed away in 1989 after a long battle with cancer. Six months later Norm suffered a major heart attack. When Clairol decided to close production in Canada in 1990, Norm was offered a retirement package.
Facing major heart surgery, Norm decided to accept the offer. He retired in May 1990.
During this time Norm and Lorna met and in 1990 they were married. Norm happily welcomed Lorna and her two children into his lovely home. Norm loved many sports and played tennis, hockey and golf at a high level of proficiency! But golf was his game.
Norm loved to travel, especially to visit family. Many road trips were made across North America and up to the Yukon to visit family but always with a golf destination in the back of his mind. A trip to Australia, New Zealand and Tahiti was a highlight for them.
In 2003 Norm and Lorna moved to Vancouver Island and settled in Parksville. He will be missed by the many friends he and Lorna made over the past 17 years.
In 2009 Norm suffered a life-changing stroke. Norm faced the challenges with grace and determination. It wasn't long before Norm was planning his next trip back east to visit his family. Family always remained the centre of Norm's life and brought so much love and enjoyment to him. Music was a big part of his life and at 71 Norm learned to play the saxophone. When golf was no longer possible, Norm spent many happy hours with his music.
Norm is survived by his wife, Lorna of 32 years and his children: Judy McHale, Marc, Marlene Lutynski (Piotr), Diane Allard (Gary), Terry (Genevieve), and his step-children Jen Eakins (Charles), and Lloyd Eakins (Alison), and 13 grandchildren and 1 great granddaughter.
A large family including his six sisters, in-laws, nieces and nephews are left to mourn Norm and will miss him greatly. We will all miss this gentle man that touched so many lives.
May the fairways be green and the rough be short! Play on.
