Jack Emerson Horning

June 25, 1928 – March 27, 2015

Jack Horning, 86, of Parksville BC, died peacefully after a valiant 6 year battle with multiple myeloma cancer.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Lillian (Senton); daughter, Jill Louise and husband, Keith Bertrand of Mountain View, California; son, Warden Claude and wife Carrie McLellan of Edmonton, Alberta; and one brother, William (Bill) and wife Annette of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.

He is also survived by four grandchildren, Scott and Laurel Horning, and Jack and Alexander Bertrand; sister-in-law Beryl Horning of Winnipeg; niece, Krista (Horning) Mask; nephew, Boyd Horning, and numerous cousins across Canada.

Born in Edam, Saskatchewan, Jack was predeceased by his father, Claude in 1949, his mother, Beatrice (Armitage) in 1973 and his brother, Donald in 2009. Jack started in the family business “Horning Sales & Service” in 1947. In 1954, he began a 31 ½ year career with John Deere Ltd. Retirement came in 1985, then a move to Parksville, BC in 1990, where Jack continued with travelling, genealogy, computers, internet service (MACN) and community volunteering.

Jack was initiated into Masonry in 1950 in Simpson, Saskatchewan (PM 1954) and this became his lifelong creed and belief. Charter Member of Mystic Tie AF&AM#213 Saskatoon, Cathedral Chapter #35, Knights Templar, Concord #79 and Qualicum Lodge. Member of Wa Wa Shrine, Regina, Parksville/Qualicum Shrine Club and Arbutus #68 OES. Jack was an active member of United Church of Canada in Simpson, Saskatoon, Rosetown, Regina and Knox United, Parksville.

A Memorial Service and reception will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, April 10, 2015 at Yates Funeral Chapel, 1000 Allsbrook Road, Parksville, BC.

Interment of ashes will be in August 2015 in the Horning Plot, Community Cemetery, Simpson, Saskatchewan. Donations may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children, c/o Parksville Qualicum Shrine Club, Box 511, Qualicum Beach, BC
