James Alton (Jim) Cochrane

90 years, of Parksville B.C., passed away peacefully Thursday, July 18, 2013 while eating his breakfast granola at Stanford Place in Parksville.

Jim was born March 17, 1923 in New Westminster B.C to Percy and Olive (Findlay) Cochrane. He graduated from Burnaby South High School in 1941 and from U.B.C in 1947 with a Master’s Degree in Chemical Engineering.

Jim spent his working career in the pulp and paper industry, in Ocean Falls, Powell River and Port Alberni, where he made many life-long friends. He moved to District 69 in 1976 where he enjoyed golf, gardening, reading, travelling, red wine and life in general.

Jim served on the board of the Society of Organized Services and served Knox United Church on the Finance Committee. He was president of the Eaglecrest Garden Club and, in his personal gardening life, maintained the church cemetery for many years.

Jim was predeceased by sister Ruth (Mann) in 1968 and wife Phyllis (Campbell) in 1981. Jim was twice lucky in love and, in 1985, married Margaret Brandon. He is survived by Margaret, sister Edith Chamberlayne (Gordon), children David (Betty Seinen), Mike (Holly) and Anne (Mel Hunt) and step-children Pat, John & Sarah. He leaves grandchildren Jesse, Emma, Keith, (Dave & Betty) Aysha, Lynden, Alex, (Mike & Holly) Vivian (Anne & Mel), Kitty (Pat), Will & Katherine (John), great grandchildren Georgia (Aysha & Patrick) and Miles (Vivian & Brendan).

The family would like to thank the staff of Stanford Place for the care Jim received in the last two and a half years of his life.

A celebration of life service will be held at

2:00 pm, Sunday July 28 2013 at Knox United Church 345 Pym Rd. Parksville B.C with

Reverend Foster Freed officiating.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Society of Organized Services, Parksville B.C.
