It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Jim Downman. Jim was born and raised in Duncan, where he formed lifelong friendships with many,
including JohnLeighton and Pete McCulloch. He moved to
Victoria in the 1950’s, where he met
and married Lois Snider.
Jim had a successful career in hardware sales. He worked for Mc & Mc, Black Brothers and later Payne Marine. For several years he had a successful
partnership in Reliable Industrial Supplies.
Jim, Lois and family lived on Diana Road, sharing many adventures and friendships through the years. Jim had many hobbies including camping, boating, fishing, gardening and bridge. Jim and Lois travelled to the USA, Mexico, Hawaii, England, New Zealand and Australia where Jim fulfilled a lifelong dream of snorkeling on the Great Barrier Reef. At 68 Jim and Lois relocated to Parksville, and enjoyed many
happy years with family and friends. In his final years, Jim often said how lucky he was to have had such a long and happy life.
Jim is survived by his loving wife, Lois, and
children Debbie Guedes, Barb (Ian Talbot), Dave
(Jamie Disbrow) and much loved grandson, Ian James. Also by, brother-in-law Jim Snider (Dianne), nephew Craig Mowbray and family, cousin Norma Carruthers and members of the Snider, Poole, Dick, Chiddell, and Lofting families. Jim was predeceased by his sisters Lorna Downman and Anne Mowbray.
Special thanks to family, friends and caregivers for their support and kindness during Jim’s recent
struggle with Alzheimer’s disease.
A memorial service will be held at 1 pm on Sunday, July 12 in St. Peter’s Anglican Church (5800 Church Rd, Duncan). In lieu of flowers, please consider a
