August 9, 1934 – April 6, 2009

John was a man of integrity, care and compassion, who brought joy into the lives of those who knew him.

John passed away peacefully April 6, 2009 surrounded by his loving family. John is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, June, daughters Catherine (Chris) Brufach, Laurie (Robert) Allen, and son Bruce (Deborah) Champagne, and predeceased by daughter Lynne Champagne.

John will be sadly missed by his grandchildren Nicola, Madison and Lucas, as well as his sisters Rose Boulet, Agathe Champagne-Botting and brothers Lucien, Laurent, and Ivan Champagne.

Son of Eugene and Germaine Champagne, John was born in St. Anne, Manitoba. He started his career of 37 years with the Manitoba Telephone System in Winnipeg. He married June and moved to Brandon in 1959 where they raised their family. In 1997, John and June moved to Parksville, British Columbia. During his retirement, John enjoyed camping, golfing, playing cards and travelling south for the winters.

John was always available with a helping hand and his generous spirit will be remembered.

The family would like to thank the Nanaimo Regional General Hospital Emergency and Palliative Care units for their wonderful support.

Honouring John’s request, there will be a private family gathering to celebrate his life. In lieu of flowers, donations to the B.C. Lung Association, PO Box 34009, Stn D,

Vancouver BC, V6J 9Z9 would be appreciated.
