Mum, an independent, strong woman with a deep-seated sense of right and wrong, raised 2 children on her own in the early 50's against all normal convention with a kind hand and loving heart. She had a wonderful sense of humor with an appropriate zinger for every occasion. Her laugh was infectious.
Her tender loving care if you were hurt, sick or injured came purely from her heart and was unbounded. She was always there for us no matter what. Mum had great negotiating skills and if there was a bargain to be had she was all over it!!! She could even find a deal where there were none.
Mum was an amazing seamstress and could make anything a little girl or boy desired it was pleats and tucks all the way. She could wear a hat like no other. Her sense of style was as current today as yesteryear. She treated everyone with kindness and respect and was loved by all.
Mum had a great love for animals and growing up Judy, her Scottie, was always by her side. Hathaway, her great big huge English sheepdog, who she would help into her little car and he fit!, was such a cuddle bug if you can just imagine. Mum didn't get mad very often but when she did you knew she had a darn good reason! Once we were grown Mum found her second love and spent the next 32 years with Ron, a partner who shared her love of travel, gardening, food (Mum did make the best coleslaw in town, her amazing salads using all things from her garden and every Sunday morning the full English style breakfasts for Ron) and even shopping! Must not forget Lee-Lee, the cat who lived across the street and really thought Mum and Ron's home was hers too! She always loved to dance and music moved her and was so important in her life even until her last peaceful breath.
Thank you to the staff of Qualicum Manor, Dr. J , Dr. Biglow, Jennifer Halls (who kept Mum's teeth pearly white) and Rhonda(amazing physio) (had Mum saying "oh my goodness") for taking such great and loving care of Mum.
Jean was predeceased by her parents Millie and George Markland, her husband Ron Aldred and her stepson Ron Jr. Mum is survived by her children David Tucker and Diane Conn, her stepdaughters Carole Denton, Eileen Barron, Linda Story and Lori Spoor, 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Blue skies all the way now Mum love always
Gentle hugs all round.
