Joan Elizabeth HASTINGS
(nee Ryan)
August 12, 1924 - November 10, 2015
It is with great sadness, I announce the peaceful passing of Joan Elizabeth Hastings at Stanford Place, Parksville, BC at the age of 91.
Joan was predeceased by her loving husband, Norman Shaw Hastings in 1996; her sister, Pat Morrison in 2007; and her brother, Bill Ryan in 2010. She is survived by her niece, Diane Birch of Gibsons, BC; brother-in-law, Rusty Morrrison, sister-in-law, Elinor Ryan, and niece, Andrea Ryan all of North Vancouver.
Born in Winnipeg, the family moved to Vancouver when Joan was young and she grew up in Kitsilano. After marrying Norm in 1950, they spent many happy years in North Vancouver until they retired in Nanoose Bay. After Norm’s death, Joan moved to Parksville where she enjoyed her patio garden, travelling, and her many friends.
Joan was a long time member of Knox United Church and remained active until fairly recently. She will be sadly missed by her sorority sisters in Masters Alpha Iota Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi.
A very special thank you to her good friend, Bernice Hathaway. Thank you also to the Knox Community and the kind ladies from Oceanside Hospice. And a special thank you to all the staff at Stanford Place, both in Assisted Living and in the Bayview wing. Your kindness, caring, and compassion was so appreciated, and you all went above and beyond to help Joan in her final weeks and days.
A Memorial Service, followed by a tea, will be held at 1:00 PM on
Monday, November 23, 2015 at Knox United Church,
345 North Pym Street in Parksville. Private burial.
