John passed away peacefully at the Memorial Pavilion of the Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria leaving behind his second wife, Mary, daughter Mavis and sons Fred, Bill, Joe, Robert and David, sisters-in-law Ruth Archer and Mavis Gould, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Born in Lake Saskatoon, Alberta, he grew up in the Peace River area of Alberta before joining the Royal Canadian Air Force in World War II as a pilot. After the war, he ran a successful hardware business in Beaverlodge, Alberta, for 31 years. He served as Mayor of Beaverlodge for several terms before retiring to Qualicum Beach in 1986.

John was an active member of the St. Stephen’s United Church in Qualicum Beach. He enjoyed fishing, carpet and lawn bowling, long walks and growing his own fruits and vegetables.

A “Celebration of Life” will be held at St. Stephen’s United Church in Qualicum Beach on Saturday, 18 September 2010, at 2:00 P.M.

The family is requesting that donations be made to the Esperanza Ministries, Box 368, Tahsis, B.C., V9P 1X0 in lieu of flowers.
