John Christian Mertz passed away on
April 18, 2010 at home, with his family by his side, after a lengthy battle with cancer.
He was born April 16, 1948 in Kamloops, B.C.
He is survived by Shannon, his loving wife of 42 years, his daughter Shereen (Mike Lacey), grandchildren Parker and Hallee Lacey, sister Helen Meeley and brothers Ken and Dave.
John will always be remembered by in-laws Warren Cross (Judy), Colleen Gagne, Donna Cross, Jay Cross and nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by daughter Melissa Mertz in 2005, mother Elsie Mertz and father Otto Mertz.
John was raised in Brocklehurst and attended school at Norkam Secondary. He pursued a career in carpentry and was a member of local 154 carpenters union.
John and his family were longtime residents of McLure, BC prior to moving to New Zealand 1987-1992. Upon returning to Canada, they resided in Nanaimo (Cedar), BC, where he became a small engine mechanic, working mainly on inboard/outboard motors. He spent many days fishing and enjoying time with his grandchildren.
