John Easton Newell

August 25, 2002

NEWELL, John Easton

With overwhelming sorrow we announce that John died peacefully in his sleep

at home, on August 25, 2002.

John was, and will always be the deeply loved husband of Marilyn, his wife and special friend for 49 years; adored and respected father of Trisha, Bill (Kathy), and Chico; Granpa Bunky to Heather, Jill, Melissa and Quinn.

Born in Vancouver April 7, 1924. John was one of the original students at St. George’s Boys School where he made many lifelong friends. At age 18 he enlisted and served with the Three Rivers Regiment, RC Armoured Corps (serving as a tank commander in Europe and North Africa, which qualified him for an extra $0.25 a day for 893 days of overseas service). Following his marriage in 1953, family life took him from Banff, AB to Palm Springs, CA, where John was very active with the youth. In 1971 he brought the family “home to Canada” and settled in Qualicum Beach, again enjoying many years as a little league coach.

Retiring in 1987 from his catering business he sold “Trisha’s” Restaurant and hit the road enjoying 15 years of motorhome travel to all corners of North America.

To quote John “I don’t go to funerals, and that includes my own”; therefore no service at his insistence. Cremation.
