John “Fred”

Frederick Paul

June 10, 1939 – November 16, 2016

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John “Fred” Fredick Paul on Wednesday, November 16th, 2016. Fred was predeceased by his parents, Harold and Agnes Paul. He will be missed by his wife of 47 years, Kathie; children, Lindsay and Ryan; and seven grandchildren.

Fred was born in Toronto, Ontario and resided there until 1966 when he decided to go “out West” to BC to continue his trade as a Stationary (Power) Engineer. He returned to Toronto in 1968 to marry the love of his life, Kathie and they moved to Prince Albert, Saskatchewan and then on to BC where they settled first in Kitimat. From there they moved on to Prince George, Kamloops, Prince Rupert, Squamish and the lower mainland where Fred worked as a Boiler Inspector until his retirement. At this time, they moved once again to spend their retirement in Parksville where their children and grandchildren lived. They took many road trips in the USA, travelled to Spain and spent winters in Mexico in the sun.

Fred enjoyed playing guitar and composing songs which provided happy hours during camping trips with friends and family. He also loved to attend and watch hockey (Go Canucks!), football (BC Lions) and Mariners Baseball. He baked bread for the family, made homemade wine and developed his famous Caesar Salad recipe which he taught to his kids and grandkids.

The family would like to thank the wonderful nurses at the Palliative Care Unit of NRGH, the Home Care workers of VIHA and the LPNs and RCAs of Stanford Place who provided such compassionate care for Fred.

In lieu of flowers, please consider honouring Fred’s memory by making a donation in his name to NRGH Palliative Care Unit, 1200 Dufferin Crescent, Nanaimo, BC V9S 2B7 or BC Children’s Hospital, 938 – West 28th Ave, Vancouver, BC V5Z 4H4.
