He will also be missed by his sister Rebecca (Gordon), brother Donald (Linda), and sister Gail (Paul). The nieces and nephews, Katherine, Charles, Alexander, William, Mary- Grace, Olivia, Emma, Eliza, Clinton, Jonathan, Jennifer and Justin. John worked in the hospitality industry all his life. First at his father's canteen and the "40 Acres" in Perth-Andover, then in Moncton and Halifax, where he met his life partner and soul mate. Together, John and Andy started their lives together in Edmonton, then in Grand Centre/Cold Lake and finally in Parksville.
His warm, friendly, and outgoing personality was always on display at Kalvas Restaurant, where he had an ever growing and loyal customer following. From employers to service and kitchen staff, he always aimed to please.
As an avid and accomplished amateur chef and baker, he loved to share his creations with family, friends and customers. We will all miss those delicious creations.
He won over a lot of hearts, but a short battle with heart disease was the one fight he didn't win.
A special thank you to the Doctors and staff at Oceanside Urgent Care, Nanaimo Regional Hospital and Royal Jubilee Hospital, the 911 operators, Ambulance Attendants and Fire & Rescue crews. Your efforts and kindness will always be greatly appreciated.
Donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, in lieu of other tributes would be appreciated.
