John “Jack” Wares

June 4, 1920 - March 13, 2014

It is with great sadness that on the evening of March 13, we lost our husband, father and friend, at the age of 93.

Jack will be truly missed by his wife, Betty; daughters, Lynda Walley, Judi Hughes (Rick); son, David (Lisa); eight grandchildren, Michael (Amber), Jason (Leslie) Hughes, Kimberly (Dedan) Forsberg, David (Jenn), Jessica Walley, Justin (Melissa), Lucas (Jessica) and Nicholas Wares; as well as eleven great-grandchildren.

Born in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan in 1920, Jack grew up in the West End of Vancouver attending Lord Roberts Elementary and King George High School.

He joined the Air Force in 1941 and was stationed overseas in Ireland, Wales and England.

Working for Coca-Cola, Kraft Foods, and Woodward’s, he retired from Jordan’s as an interior designer in 1984. An avid outdoorsman, retirement paved the way for Jack to begin a new career as ski instructor on Cypress and Whistler mountains.

He loved to ski, golf, paint, and especially enjoyed good times with his family of whom he was so proud. He and Betty made many happy memories exploring BC, travelling throughout Canada, and of their visits to Australia.

Jack had great fondness for his many long-time friends, those in North Vancouver and more recently in the Parksville area. His friends at St. Stephen’s United Church were particularly important to him. He loved to read his bible, learn and grow in his Christian faith. Devoted to his family, well-respected and loved, our memories of Jack will long be remembered and cherished.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 pm at St. Stephen’s United Church, 150 Village Way, Qualicum Beach on Saturday, March 29th.

In lieu of flowers, please consider honouring Jack’s memory with a donation in his name to the BC Lung Association, 2675 Oak Street, Vancouver, BC
