May 10, 2020
It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of John Neilson on May 10, 2020 after an 8 year battle with cancer. He fought courageously and passed peacefully with his family by his side. John is survived by Sandra, his wife of 38 years, their children Michael (Carly) and Kathleen (Ryan) and their grandchildren Jacob, Henry and Fiona. He also leaves behind two sisters, Kathleen and Irene (Brian).
John was born in Dundee, Scotland in 1943 and came to Canada in 1965 where he bought and sold bakeries around BC, eventually retiring to Qualicum Beach and then Duncan.
John was a beer drinking, movie loving, joke cracking, dancing machine who worked hard and played harder. He was full of advice and life experience and had a story to tell for every occasion. He loved helping the little guy and giving a hand up to those with a passion to succeed. Known for his wicked sense of humour, he attracted people from every walk of life everywhere he went. The man could make friends anywhere.
Our hearts are broken and it's far too quiet without him but we are so glad he is at peace. We will remember him with a smile, a laugh and an ice cold beer.
John requested in lieu of a funeral we simply buy "the boys" a round on him.
