John Raymond Dillabough

December 31, 1937 – November 16, 2013

John passed away on Saturday, November 16, 2013 at Arrowsmith Lodge surrounded by the love of his family. He leaves to mourn his loving wife of 54 years, Louise; devoted dad to his daughters, Sandra and Nadine (Mark) Goodgrove; proud papa of Krista (Bryce), Byron (Samantha), Tara-Lyn, Jordyn and Hayley; great-grandfather to Oscar, Kaiven, Chace, Tucker and Zane; brother to Rod, Bob (Joyce), Wayne (Irene). John was predeceased by both his parents James and Verna; brothers, Jim and Murray. He will be lovingly remembered by many extended family members and many close friends.

John grew up on the family farm in Dand, Manitoba. At 19 he met and later married his best friend, Louise. They started with nothing but their love for each other. After years of hard work, John discovered his passion and was given the opportunity to work in healthcare. He began his career as a Hospital Administrator in 1963 and was responsible for the planning and building of three new hospitals throughout his career of 34 years.” Mr. D.” held a strong and gentle presence at the Deloraine, Souris, Fort Nelson and Squamish General Hospitals, where he was respected and appreciated by all for his genuine dedication and incredible work ethic.

John was a proud member of the Elks and Lions Club, volunteering years of service in his home communities. He was also an outdoor enthusiast who fully embraced the beauty of BC through his hiking, running, biking and camping. John was able to enjoy these activities to the fullest once he and Louise moved to Parksville.

First and foremost, was his constant love and support for his wife and family. John will be remembered for his avid story telling, which often included tales of his many travels with Louise.

A Celebration of Life will be held in John’s honour at Yates Funeral Chapel, 1000 Allsbrook Road in Parksville Saturday, December 21, 2013, at 1:00pm.
