In Loving Memory of Joseph Zilkowsky
March 17, 1918 – December 9, 2013
Joe was born on the NE quarter, Section 16, Township 36, near Carmel, Saskatchewan and passed away at Stanford Place in Parksville, BC.
Raised in Saskatchewan, Dad left the farm in 1942, after being conscripted into the army. He married our mother, Betty Fortowsky, while he was AWOL.
The settled in Coquitlam, BC, where they raised their six children: Terry (Fay), Al (Herbie), Carol (Bill), Pattie (Brandt), Debbie (Claude), and Donna (Ed).
Dad worked for 36 years at what was then known as Fraser Mills in Coquitlam and became an electrician there while also operating his own business doing residential wiring. Always a hard worker and a responsible husband and father, he could make and repair almost anything.
His hobbies were playing guitar, playing cards with friends and family, studying genealogy, and, of course, talking. As his eyes and ears went, his love of talking increased and many enjoyed his interesting stories of life on the farm.
A grandfather to 11 and a great-grandfather to 13, he will be missed by many. His name will be carried on by his great-grandson, Ben Zilkowsky.
Joe is survived by his brother, Art, and his sisters, Cecile and Frances.
Dad was a founding member of All Saints Parish in Coquitlam, where his service will be held.
We would like to thank all the staff who cared for Dad during his last years.
We love you, Dad.
