Joyce Barr
February 10, 1920 – July 22, 2013
Joyce passed away peacefully on July 22nd at the age of 93. She came to the Island in 1949 with her late husband, Peter Barr, to help her mother build a resort north of Qualicum Beach. They built a house overlooking the ocean on Shaw Hill where she lived until moving to The Gardens in 2006.
Joyce will be remembered for her contributions to theatre and music in the community. She was well-known for her comedic solo performances as well as singing with The Island Troubadours and the St. Stephen’s Church Choir. Joyce was a long-time volunteer in the office at The Old School House Arts Centre in Qualicum Beach.
She will be greatly missed by her daughter, Terry Murray; son, Toby (Jane); and grandchildren, Rebecca and Jonathan. The family sends heartfelt thanks to the 3rd floor staff at “The Gardens” for their wonderful kindness and loving care of Joyce.
A Celebration of Joyce’s Life will be held on
Saturday, September 21st at 2:00 pm at
St Stephen’s United Church, 150 Village Way
in Qualicum Beach.
