Joyce Isabella Hucul nee Buchanan, 87, passed peacefully into the loving arms of our Lord on June 26, 2019. Joyce had suffered a stroke in 2015 and had been in declining health since then.
Joyce was born in 1931, at the Royal Columbian Hospital, New Westminster, BC to Harold & Ella (Watt) Buchanan. She moved to Port Alberni, BC in 1946, marrying William Nickolas Hucul on June 16, 1949. She worked at Woodwards for many years, well known for her love of jokes and laughter. Fishing, baking and canning were her favourite pass times. She was famous with family and friends for her peanut butter cookies, salmon sandwiches and relishes. In 1969, Joyce and Bill moved to Parksville, then later in retirement to Ladysmith, BC. Mom was active in the Eagles and Probus clubs, her church and volunteering at the old Ladysmith Hospital. Mom lived at the Lodge on 4th for two and a half years and then relocated to Vernon, BC at Noric House to be close to her family.
Joy is survived by her daughter, Donna (Peter Gilchrist) Vernon BC and son, Dan (Bonnie )Calgary AB. She had six grandchildren: Kimberly (Ken Cofield), Keith (Lesa), Andrew (Danielle), Erin Gilchrist, Naomi Sikorski (Stefan Flueckiger), and Krista (Rob Curry).
Great grandchildren: Mada-Lynn, Samantha, Keenan, Luke, Kason, Nickolas, Damon, Aria, Kyanna (Austin), Jordynne (Kris), Joshua, Frankie, Casey, Braydon, Jenna(Ben), Ryan (Amanda). Great, great grandchildren: Loki, Aya, Morgan, Jackson & Caleb.
She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Lucy Buchanan (Donald), many loving nieces and nephews and their families, as well as her very dear and special friends Elsie Frantzen, and Bev and Elmer Williams.
She was predeceased by her brothers Beverly and Donald, sister Jean and husband, William Nickolas( 2008).
Interment and prayers will be held in Ladysmith, at the Ladysmith Cemetary, on September 21, 2019 at 11 am. Please contact Donna Gilchrist if you plan to attend.
