In loving memory ~
It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our Mom, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Aunt and Friend; Joyce Lorraine (Sarvis) Pelletier. Mom passed away surrounded by the love of family and friends at her side on November 5th 2022.
Mom's focus in her life has always been her family, which she loved and supported throughout her life. Born in Dryden Ontario on 15th of May in 1935 to Violet and Bruce Sarvis; the family moved to Campbell River in 1944. Mom began her working career at the Beehive Café at 12 years old and never really stopped working or doing since. Mom graduated from Carihi High school in 1953, going on to Secretary school in Vancouver. When Mom returned to Campbell River she became the first Miss Campbell River.
Mom worked for a time at the Elk Falls Pulp Mill and then CIBC Bank where she met Dad, Ernie Pelletier, marrying June 2nd,1956. Mom and Dad bought Del's Burgers in 1959 from Uncle Del & Aunty Bette, (Dad's Brother).
Together they created a successful and memorable business for 22 years. The famous "Zombie Burger", secret sauces, great milkshakes, catering and carhops in GoGo boots were all part of Del's. We still hear stories about the good ole days at Del's.
Mom & Dad worked tirelessly to create this successful family business. Mom although not always in the shop, was busy making pies into the wee hours of the night, doing the books, making aprons, uniforms, as well as making many of our clothes, beautiful matching mother/daughter outfits for the girls and suits for the boys. Always had something on the go.
Mom & Dad parted ways in 1978, after which Mom worked at Painters Lodge for a period, before beginning her successful career in Real estate, joining Check Realty. Mom was a passionate Realtor, winning many awards as Top Producer. Anyone who knew Mom, knew she was honest and a straight shooter with a high level of integrity which meant the " I's"' had to be dotted and "t's" crossed. Mom was a "doer". You had to be on your toes when Mom was around.
Mom had many passions, from her curling and bonspiels, to crafts, knitting, crocheting, sewing, ceramics, rockhounding, jewelry making but always family first. We as a family benefited from her curiosity to learn her skills and life lessons she shared with us.
Mom was active in the community, on many boards and organizations in Campbell River, which she was so proud to be apart of. A founding member of the CR Seniors Center in 2008, creating a successful Del's Burger Day as a fund raiser for the center, as well as the CR Museum fundraiser to help pay for the restoration of the Del's sign, which is now in the Museum. Many family members helped out and helped create these events.
Mom loved to have fun; a party girl in her day, loving to dance, dress up in costume and have a laugh, which might come as a surprise lol. Such an infectious laugh. Mom loved to travel whenever she could and enjoyed her oceanside get away at Surfside in Parksville with family and friends.
Mom had a big heart and was a kind and caring person, who was generous to her family, friends and those in need. She opened her home and hospitality to the many that came her way. Her love for her puppies over the years was unwavering. They were her babies. Kylie was by Mom's side the day before her she passed.
Mom will be missed very much by those she leaves behind, her daughters; Jollean Chantrel (aka Lana Dee) (Earl Billingsley), Yvonne Pelletier Paul, her sons Rick Pelletier (Donna), and Monty Pelletier. Grandchildren; Amy Wilson (Allan), Raeyane & Morganne Billingsley Joey, Brooklyn & Dezarae Pelletier, Janelle & Tommy Pelletier, Kelly Weissenborn (Lacey) & Krista Galbraith (Bryce) & their children. Great-grandchildren; Eden & Evan Wilson, Michayla & Mathew Billinglsey along with many nieces & nephews.
Mom is predeceased by her sister Carol Erickson; grandson Jeff Billingsley and our Dad/ex-husband Ernie Pelletier.
The Family would like to give a heartfelt thank you, to Dr. Jon Walker, who Mom loved and respected. Mom was always concerned that Jon was going to retire before she expired! We also thank the Discovery Harbour Team particularly the Sonora Floor for their kindness & caring for Mom and the Family during her time there and her final days. Thank you to Angela for her continued support. Thank you.
A gathering to share stories and Celebrate Mom/Joyce with family and friends will most likely be held in the Spring.
