Kenneth Bert Harris

March 21, 2004

HARRIS, Kenneth Bert April 15, 1927 - March 21, 2004 It is with great sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of Ken peacefully at his home in Parksville. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 55 years, Lucinda and his daughters Karen (Lawrence) Harris, Elaine (Brian) Gacek, Kathryn (Bill) Van Dinther and Nola (Dave) Hickey. He also leaves behind his grandchildren Brent (Lisa) Gacek, Mark Prior, Keith Gacek, Owen Prior, Kristen Van Dinther, Matthew Van Dinther and Claire Wilson. Ken was pre-deceased by his youngest daughter Laurel (Dan) Wallace in 1988. Born in Magrath, Alberta, Ken's early years were spent on the family farm. He then made his living logging in the Crowsnest Pass where he met and married the love of his life, Lucinda Toderian. Two daughters were born in the Pass, then the family moved to Vauxhall where Ken worked as a bartender in the Vauxhall Hotel and did maintenance work for the Town. By 1965 the family had blossomed to five daughters and they relocated to Brooks where Ken owned and operated the Texaco service and bulk station. As Ken's long time dream was to live on the west coast, the family packed up the three youngest daughters and in 1975 moved to Lantzville where Ken again owned and operated a Texaco station in Nanaimo for a few years. His last 13 working years were spent as a school janitor for Morningside, Rutherford and Hammond Bay Schools. Ken lived his dream; entertaining his family and friends for countless hours in his boat on the briny. He and Lucinda loved to host get-togethers, as their home was the gathering place on many memorable occasions. He is dearly loved and will be forever remembered by all who knew him, including his pooch and constant companion, Mocha. A Memorial Service for Ken will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 3, 2004 at the Parksville Funeral Chapel, Cemetery and Crematorium, 248-4644. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Ken to the Parksville SPCA or the Oceanside Parkinsons Support Group, C/O 506 Temple St., Parksville, BC, V9P 1A4. "We'll miss you Dad"
