Kevin Ross Osberg passed away suddenly on Saturday, October 24, 2020 at the age of 54. He was born in Alberta to Gary and Lorna and is survived by his loving wife Betty; son Ross (mother Karen); mother Lorna; father Gary (Lavina); siblings Dwayne, Brian, Perry, Leanne, Cindy; numerous nieces and nephews.
Kevin was born with a love for bicycles and began working at numerous bicycle shops throughout Alberta and British Columbia at the young age of 17. By 1989 he was living in Port Alberni managing the Pedal Pusher.
After four years of managing he purchased the store and renamed it Ozzie's Sport n' Cycle. In 2010 Kevin sold his partnership of Ozzie's and established Bike Wizard by Ozz in 2011. His dream was to one day have a store where he could refurbish and restore antique bicycles from around the world and bring them back to their original glory.
Bike Wizard by Ozz fulfilled his dream and he was a true wizard at what he did. He put his heart and soul into every bicycle that he completed and it was amazing to see the final product which would be nothing less than a work of art.
In Kevin's own words:
I have been in the bicycle industry since 1985. In the past 10 years I have specialized in Vintage & Antique bicycle restoration & rebuilds. My passion lies within cycles, and I thrive on the history. I distinctively love the oldies from the 1930s to the 1960s, though certainly love them all.
Whether it has a sentimental or a nostalgic meaning to you, my work on the oldies can bring back the charm of what once was. Any age, most any bike, even the retro mountain, BMX and road bike. I've done many full bicycle restorations and hundreds of rebuilds/partial restorations. I strive to complete each job to be as original and as solid as they were when new. If you have an old bike that has meaning to you, I'm your guy to make that bike rideable and enjoyable once again.
Over the past 35 years I have sold hundreds and hundreds of cycles. I have worked in 12 plus bike shops, and owned 2 of them. I have stocked and sold the very best bikes in the world. I pride myself in the service and knowledge I deliver to all of my work.
Kevin had a great passion for many things and loved life; he did his best to live it to the fullest. He explored nature every chance he could whether it was hiking, cycling or just watching the ocean waves and walking the beaches of the island's west coast. He was a gifted writer and would compose prose and stories about his adventures throughout his life.
After losing his legs, Kevin was determined that he would walk again. He would frequent The Boardwalk of Parksville almost daily in order to accomplish this goal... and he did walk again! And again, and again.
He met many people from around the world on these walks and enjoyed sharing stories and words of wisdom with all that he met. His strength to overcome huge health issues was an inspiration to many. He would often be seen riding his HandCycle through the Rathtrevor trails or on the road between Parksville and Qualicum with his son whom he loved dearly.
Kevin, you will be greatly missed.
Rest in peace.
A gathering will be held at a later date. Stories and condolences may be left for the family at www.chapelofmemories.ca
