Lana Ethier (nee Gorenko) loved to laugh, and her high-pitched, boisterous laugh will carry on in the memories of her friends and family for many years to come.
Lana was born in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan and moved to Vancouver Island in 1956. She was a hairdresser in her early years and spent many years of her life caring for children, mostly family and extended family members. She watched soap operas and scary movies with them, always keeping a pillow close to her face for the hair-raising parts. She played cards with them, curled their hair with rags, and made them hearty food. Lana doted on her grandchildren Nadia, Panos and Shari, and she couldn't wipe the smile from her face when holding great-grandaughter Matilda. Lana was predeceased by her parents George and Eileen, her brothers Gregory and Tim Gorenko and her niece, Nikki Jiggins. Lana is survived by daughters Melanie Rockliff and Jennifer Xenakis, sisters Charlene McGarrigle (Ray), Wendy Filmer (Brad), Kelly Jiggins (Kim), Sister-in-law Diana, as well as many nieces and nephews, who all miss her and her quirky laugh dearly.
A Celebration of Life will be held for Lana on Sunday, August 25 at 2 pm. It will take place at Hustwick Place Commons Room, 205 Jensen Ave. in Parksville.
