Laurel Mae Ware (nee Scissons)

November 7, 1924 - March 26, 2015

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved

mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Laurel Ware.

Laurel was predeceased by her parents, Lena and Charles Scissons; brothers, Gilbert and Paul; children, Tom and Leslie; and grandchild, Arnie. She is survived by children, Dale, Jim, and Barbara; grandchildren, Kristine, Travis, Jeremy, Jennifer, Matt, Darlene, Ryan, and Taylor; great-grandchildren, Tyra, Kiera, Dakota, Olivia, Ben, Ella, and Maiya as well as the significant others of each of the family members.

Laurel was born in St. Helena, California, and moved to China with her family when she was a small child. Upon returning to California, she built airplanes during the war and spent many years in and out of logging camps with her family.

They eventually settled in Errington, where she married Glen and raised her family. Laurel spent many years working at Noden’s and Home Hardware. She had a passion for travel and often took trips with her brother, Paul; sister in law, Pat; and her lifelong friend, Betty.

She spent countless hours sewing and knitting for everyone but her biggest passion was gardening. At one point, her yard looked like Butchart Gardens. Laurel was a loving woman and a loyal friend to many. She was never shy to share her honesty with anyone. If you were ever the recipient of her unfiltered opinion, or were offered a stiff drink during “Bloody Mary Hour”, you knew you were now part of the family. She truly enjoyed all of your friendships and company over the years, so a special thanks to all of you.

Laurel, thank you for raising us, teaching us the necessity of hard work, the value of a dollar, a strong sense of ethics and the joy of a stiff drink. You are loved and missed by everyone who had the pleasure of having you in their lives. Finally, thank you to the staff at Malaspina Gardens and the Nanaimo Hospital Palliative Care unit for all of their compassion and support for Laurel and her family.

To honour Laurel, a Celebration of Life will be held from 1:00 – 4:00 pm

on Saturday, April 18, 2015 at the Errington War Memorial Hall,

1390 Errington Road, Errington, BC.
