1936 - 2012

Leleah (Lee) passed away September 25, 2012 after a short illness. Lee is survived by her husband Albert, son Darrell & daughter-in-law Julie, daughter Noreen (Schaefer) and son-in-law Jim, and son Warren & daughter-in-law Shauna, along with grandchildren Leiv and Alysa, brother Harold and spouse Mary Ellen, and brother George and partner Nancy. Lee grew up in Moncton, NB spending summers at her family’s cottage on the ocean. This gave her a lifelong love of the ocean along with the sights, sounds, and aromas surrounding it. Upon graduating from nursing school, Lee spent time in Montreal, Calgary and Edmonton during her early career. She married Albert, a geologist at the time, and shortly thereafter relocated to Grande Prairie, AB. Albert completed his law degree during this time. They started a family and introduced Darrell, Noreen, and Warren into their lives. Their next stop was Peace River, AB where Albert was appointed as a Magistrate, and Lee resumed her operating nurse career. Following a 4 year stint, they relocated to Banff, AB where their children gained their love of the outdoors excelling in activities such as skiing, hiking, and fishing. Upon retirement, Lee and Albert relocated to the Parksville area close to the ocean. Lee was an accomplished craftsperson excelling in sewing and needlepoint. Lee had a great interest in travelling and they spent many winters in Mexico driving their trailer down and back for several years. They also went on several cruises to far flung locales. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at the Nanaimo General Hospital and Palliative Care units for their excellent care and attention to comfort. In honouring Lee’s wishes there will be no service. If desired, memorial donations can be made to the Nanaimo Palliative Care unit in lieu of flowers.
