October 29, 1940 - May 17, 2020
Leon Morgan Myhres (Mick) was born on October 29, 1940 and passed peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones on May 17th 2020. Leon was born and raised in Cold Lake Alberta until his early teens when the family moved to Terrace BC. Leon was always on the move looking for adventure and new opportunities so at the age of sixteen he left home and hitchhiked to New Westminster to find work in the lumber mills and fishing industry. Soon he met and married Pearl, moving to Vancouver Island to raise their children.
Together with his brother, Tito they built two 43 ft cement trawlers in the back yard, as well as built a contracting/construction business, Myhres Brothers Construction. His love of family and community meant he was busy with local baseball and hockey teams, service clubs and 4-H clubs. He was loved by many. He leaves behind his loving wife Pearl, son Peter (Sherry) Coquitlam, son Larry (Lisa) Merville, daughter Randi, Bowser, daughter Tammie (Eric) Bowser and son Lars also of Bowser. He is survived by his siblings, Mazie (Albert) Coombs, Lillian (Ted) Terrace, Tito (Lynda) Qualicum Beach, and Shelley (Shay), Nanaimo.
He also leaves behind 13 grandchildren, Jeff (Alana), Chris (Paulo), Natalie (Tyrone), Nicole, Mark (Travis), Remi, Sarah, Morgan, Cole, Chanel, Patricia, Bronson and Alexis and three beautiful great-grandsons, Carson, Koen and Zane. As well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and his faithful canine companion Buddy.
Leon is predeceased by his parents, Morgan and Sigrid Myhres and his sister Caroline (Stanley). Our family would like to express our deep appreciation to the BC Ambulance attendants, the Doctors, nurses and other medical staff on the third floor for their compassion, consideration and excellent care he received at the Comox Valley Hospital. Also, we would like to express our profound gratitude to Sabina Acheson for her love and thoughtful acts of support and kindness to all of us on a difficult day.
We are planning a day in the future, as yet to be determined when gatherings are allowed, to come together to remember and celebrate an amazing son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Leon's name, can be made to the BC Heart and Stroke Foundation.
