Les Edgar

February 24, 1921 – July 27, 2016

On July 27, 2016 in Parksville BC, Les Edgar passed away at age 95. Les was born in Liverpool, England on February 24, 1921.

Les will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Yvette, daughter, Liz (Marty), grandson, Geminy, great grandchildren, Aislinn and Kai, sister, Mabel, niece, Jackie (Larry) and grandnephews, Chris and Tim.

Les came to Canada with his parents James and Sarah Edgar. He spent time in the Forestry Corp during WW11. Les married Marguerite, a nurse, in England and their daughter Elizabeth was born after Les had returned with the troops.

Marguerite and Elizabeth followed, and he built the family a home in Kakabeka Falls, Ontario next door to his parents.

As well as being a fireman, church and community volunteer, Les worked for the Great Lakes Paper Co. as a scaler and timber cruiser for many years. He and Marguerite established a successful motel business before finally fulfilling the dream to move to Vancouver Island in the late 1960’s.

He was an avid fisherman and chartered fishing groups as well as working around Haida Gwaii as a fishing inspector.

Les was involved in rebuilding much of the West Coast Trail bridges and boardwalks as well as being a house builder.

Sadly, Marguerite passed away in 1988.

As time passed Les met and married Yvette. The two of them enjoyed winters RVing in Canada and U.S.A.

Les dearly loved his family, graciously hosting the annual gatherings of the “clan” along with Yvette, at Christmas and his famous salmon BBQ in the summer.

He enjoyed the outdoors, be it playing golf with the companionship of good friends, a walk through the deep peace of the old growth woods (he helped protect the Heritage Forest) or relaxing on the patio, watching creatures that came to the backyard.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday August 11, 2016 at 2:00PM at Yates Funeral Service, 1000 Allsbrook Rd, Parksville, BC. A reception will follow.

“We will miss him beyond what words can express and are grateful
