CARPENTER, Leslie C. October 16, 1923 - May 1, 2002Les was born and raised in Longwell Green near Bath, England. He first came to Canada in 1941 with the Commonwealth Air Training School and ended his military service as an officer in the 4th Gurkha Rifles in India when demobilized in 1946. He soon returned to Canada and in 1950 married Joan (nee Francis) in Vancouver. In 1967 they moved with their three children to an acreage outside Parksville, where he continued his clearing and excavating business. He was fascinated by machinery and always loved a good story or joke. Les died of cancer in Nanaimo Regional General Hospital on May 1, 2002. He was predeceased by brothers Victor and George, and is survived by eldest brother William; sister Irene; wife Joan; daughter Donna; and sons Lawrence and Bruce.
