Lottie Jane Archer
August 2, 1921 – April 5, 2014
“But oh for the touch of a vanished hand and the sound of a voice that is still”
Lord Alfred Tennyson
Lottie Jane Archer of Qualicum Beach passed away peacefully in the presence of her loving husband of 73 years, Kenneth David Archer, her eldest son David, and her daughter Terrill.
She is survived by her husband Ken; sons, David and Robert (Belle) ; daughter, Terrill (Paul); grandchildren, Cory, Lisa, Ian, and Alistair; great-grandchildren, Kaylee, Toni, Katherine, Neala, Logan, and Megan; step-granddaughters, Melinda, Lee, and Heather.
Even though Lottie was fiercely proud of her Alberta ranch land heritage, her dream was to live by the ocean. She and Ken fulfilled that dream in 1980 when they moved from Calgary to Qualicum Beach. In their new island home, Lottie made many friends through her involvement with the Qualicum Beach Golf Club, her bridge clubs, and as an original member of the first dragon boat team in the Central Vancouver Island area – A Breast of Life. She was a proud cancer survivor who began paddling at the age of 74 and retired her paddle at 80 at the Alcan Dragon Boat Festival in Vancouver.
Lottie also believed that it was important to give back to her community and was actively involved as a volunteer for the Red Cross Society, the Canadian Cancer Society, Trillium Lodge, and the Qualicum Beach Residents’ Society.
Lottie’s qualities as a devoted parent, loving grandparent, true friend, and loving wife will be missed by so many. The family extends their gratitude to the 3rd floor staff at The Gardens in Qualicum Beach for their professional and compassionate care during Lottie’s final years.
“Did you ever know that you’re my hero? You’re everything I wish I could be. I could fly higher than an eagle ‘cause you are the wind beneath my wings.”
