December 23, 1923 – December 1, 2012

Margaret Ruth (Ruth) Dupont passed away suddenly from a heart attack on December 1st, 2012 at the age of 88.

She is predeceased by her husband George, who died at the age of 80 in July of 2008. Ruth is survived by her three sons (Chad, James and Robert), her sisters (Camilla and Mary Jo), her brothers-in-law (Allan, Mario, Gerry and Larry), her sisters-in-law (Arlene, Dorothy and Jeanne), her daughter-in-law (Yasuko) and many nephews and nieces.

Ruth was born in Nail Pond, P.E.I. on December 23rd, 1923 to Jim and Bridget Gallant. She grew up on a small farm with ten brothers and sisters (Berne, Ethel, Marie, Ernest, Frances, Cecilia, Rita, Mary Jo, Mark and Camilla). Ruth was drawn to a life of prayer and service and, after finishing high school, she seriously considered joining a convent. Although she eventually decided against becoming a nun, she remained deeply prayerful and committed to service throughout her life.

Ruth moved to Ottawa in her early twenties, where she attended college and worked as a legal secretary. She married George on January 11th, 1958 and soon after moved to Wainwright, Alberta. Ruth gave birth to three sons in Wainwright and started her new life of service.

Over the next 14 years, she moved from one Canadian Army base to another with her family, living in Belgium, Germany, Cobourg (Ontario) and St. Hubert (Quebec). In 1972, Ruth moved with her family to Calgary, Alberta. In Calgary, she worked as a bank teller and she was a C.W.L. president in Holy Name Parish, Calgary.

In 1987, she moved to Parksville, B.C. with George and she lived there ever since. Her many friends and relatives will remember her as an extremely hard worker, a good friend and a very generous person. She will be sadly missed by the many people she has touched in her life.

A funeral will be held for Ruth at 3 p.m. on Dec. 7th at Parksville’s Church of the Ascension.

She will be interred at 1 p.m. on Dec. 12th at Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens (near Nanaimo).
