Western, Margaret Sharon

November 16, 1939 – July 31, 2008

On Thursday, July 31st, 2008 Sharon Western passed away quietly at home. Born November 16, 1939 in Nanaimo, BC, Sharon spent her years growing up in the Parksville, Nanoose, and Qualicum areas. She earned her teaching degree from UBC and spent the next 45 years sharing her passion for learning in and out of the classroom. Her teaching days started in Vancouver, but she soon came home to the island where she taught until retirement in Nanaimo. Sharon continued to inspire learners long after her “retirement” as a much sought after tutor.

Sharon brought wonderful enthusiasm to her life and to all those around her. She loved to laugh and always let her children and grandchildren know how much they were adored. She was a thoughtful and dedicated friend, vivacious Red Hatter, avid card maker, voracious reader and tireless “crocheter”.

Sharon is survived by her two children Kevin Western (Sherrin) and Lauri Gwilt (Gary), grand children Meagan Gwilt and Carmen Gwilt, mother Peggy Nicholls, sister Julie Burridge (Nigel), nephews Brad Dillen (Jen) and Blair Dillen (Fiona), niece Andrea Wickham (Chris), uncle Campbell Williams (Ileana), special cousin Margie (Andy) Graaten, many more cousins, grand nieces and nephews, and predeceased by her father Len Nicholls.

Sharon was loved and cherished by so many and her joy-filled spirit will live on in all our hearts.

A celebration of Sharon’s life will be held at 2pm, Saturday, August 9 at her sister Julie’s residence at 855 Seashell Place, Parksville, BC.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations on Sharon’s behalf to Literacy Nanaimo http://www.literacynanaimo.org or the Canadian Cancer Society www.cancer.ca
