Mom was born the second child and daughter to Irenee Noel and Irene Marie Champagne (Bazinet) on Friday, September 22, 1916.
Much of Mom’s early life was growing up on a farm in Fisher Branch, Manitoba. Mom had the fortune to enjoy watching the addition of many brothers and sisters that would become complete at eleven.
Not far away was another farm family in Fisher Branch – the Camires. One son, Gerry, caught the eye of Mom and they married on June 21, 1941. Early years were spent at Fisher Branch and then Pickle Crow and Kenora, Ontario. In February, 1949 I
arrived.
With the family complete and opportunities out west they sold their home and ended up in Burnaby, B.C. To Mom’s great pleasure nearly all her family ended up moving west and living close by. Family has always been Mom’s greatest interest and pleasure. Our home was always open to family and friends. Parties, celebrations, Mom’s outstanding meals, a game of cards and just generally good times, it was always a happy place to be.
After her parents passed away, Mom earned the title “Family Matriarch”. She loved the title and wore it well. In 1987 Mom and Dad moved to Coquitlam, B.C. where they bought a brand new home. Mom loved it.
In 1991, Mom and Dad celebrated their 50thWedding Anniversary. The following January, Dad passed away. Mom remained in Coquitlam until she moved to Nanaimo, B.C. to be closer to us. The move was good for her and us.
In addition to Dad, Mom was predeceased by brothers and sisters - Bob, Helen, Lou, Joe, Eva, Ray, and Irene. She leaves behind her son Victor, his wife Lori and their daughters Rachel (husband Tim) and Rebecca and her siblings George, Leo and Lil. Days before her passing she said she wanted to see her husband ~ her wish, now granted.
