Passed away at Stanford Place Centre on Friday, September 7, 2012. Martha was predeceased by her husband, Roy, and leaves behind her daughter, Lois (Andy); sons, Ron (Jeanette) and Brian (Claire); 2 sisters, Gertrude and Kay; 7 grandsons; 3 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed by her family and lovingly remembered.

Born and raised in Camrose, AB, Martha was one of 7 sisters. When she was 18 she met and fell in love with Roy Bredesen. As she often said, she knew right from the start that he was the one for her. Soul mates, they were married in 1942, and stayed happily married for 69 years. Martha moved to Port Alberni when Roy was sent overseas during the war, where their daughter was born. When Roy returned home, they returned to Camrose. Martha gave birth to 2 sons and her family was complete. A spirited and energetic lady, Martha worked outside the home while raising her children. She and Roy moved several times, living in Dawson Creek, Grande Prairie and Spruce Grove, AB before Roy retired and they settled in Parksville. With each move, Martha worked hard alongside Roy to make their new house a home. In the early years, she and Roy were enthusiastic square dancers and loved to go camping with the family.

After retirement, gardening became Martha’s passion. She loved flowers, bird watching and shopping. More than anything, Martha loved a good laugh.

Martha ended her days at Stanford Place Centre, where she moved to when Roy broke his hip and needed extended care. When Roy passed away in March of this year, Martha was bereaved and never fully regained her joy.

The family wish to thank Dr. Henderson and the staff at Stanford for the outstanding care and tenderness they gave Martha.

There will be no service as per her request.

Martha was devoted to her family and fiercely protective of them. In return we loved Martha beyond what words can say, she will live forever in our hearts.
